A dozen academic days left of this second quarter to enjoy. Yes, it is correct that there are only 12 days remaining until break-up day on Friday 14 June. Please ensure that your son does not stay away from school unless medically unfit to attend and that he is here to enjoy each day, including the last day of the term.
STAFF NEWS
The staff throughout the school, in all departments, are actively involved each day at this busy period. The final assessments are being completed, marking is continuing until late into the night, lessons are still thoroughly prepared and presented, coaching is extremely active for the remaining fixtures, administration and maintenance staff are extremely busy behind the scenes, extra mural clubs/activities are fully operational with the boys and parents in full support.
Thank you staff for your commitment given to the school at this extremely busy period. Thank you ‘Prep families’ for your input and appreciation noted on a regular basis of the staff’s commitment in maintaining our levels of excellence.
ACADEMIC NEWS
The mid-year standardized testing period for Grade 6 and Grade 7 ended yesterday but please note continuous assessment and other academic responsibilities will continue throughout each phase in the term. The academic programme and term is not over yet! Please ensure that all homework and study tasks are met.
Thank you to the Grade 5 staff and their boys for hosting an outstanding presentation and display in the Maurice Wilkinson Hall last week. The theme on ‘Ancient Civilization’ was thoroughly researched by the individuals and groups with some out of the box creative thinking noted in their creative design activities. The various boys who also addressed the audience also need to be highlighted for their excellent contribution. Your support as parents is also so greatly valued at this educational learning experience. Well done to Grade 5 leader Mrs Huber and her team.
FATHERS’ DAY
Our DPHS celebration of our Super Dads takes place this Friday here at school with our two assemblies namely: 07h30 for SP and 08h30 for JP.
I remind all fathers/grandfathers including our Grade R dads that they are most welcome to attend these assemblies of their respective choice.
Our Grade 1 section have been rehearsing extremely hard to ensure that you will be well entertained and made to feel extremely proud as ‘Dad’ in our school and in your family. Please make the necessary effort to be present on Friday – come on Dad’s let us fill the hall with the biggest attendance in years! Thank you Grade 1, staff and boys!
Don’t forget Dads in the JP Section that you will be invited to visit your son in class after the Assembly, so please make every effort to be in attendance.
RECEPTION UNIT
Thank you to our Grade R, staff and boys for hosting our Reception Unit walk on the John Smith field this Friday after the second assembly. This fun event is always exciting for our ‘young men’ who are cheered on to complete as many laps of their course. Once again we need the full support of all our Grade R families on the sidelines to motivate our boys. You are reminded that the ‘starter’s gun’ will fire to begin the event at 09h00 – please don’t be late!
We look forward to seeing you there with us at this annual Reception Unit event.
DPHS PHOTONOTE RUGBY FESTIVAL/CAFÉ PREP
We will have our visitors from around the country arriving on our doorstep next Tuesday. Planning has been thorough and DPHS is set to stage another festival that we will be so proud of. I am well aware that we will be extremely well catered for at Café Prep in the Mkhombiseni Functions Room as well as downstairs at our Prep Club. I am also extremely proud of the efforts of staff and parents who have combined to make this event happen. Thank you in abundance to our parents who have opened up their homes to accommodate over 200 boys from the visiting schools as well as to the many parents who have sponsored or donated items and who have indicated that they are ready to assist with the serving and preparing with the Mothers Committee at Café Prep. The staff under the directing of Mr Dick have been well briefed for an ‘all hands on deck’ approach in many different areas throughout all three days of the festival. Well done staff and parents – another Proudly Prep achievement!
GO PROTEAS!
I take this opportunity to call on the DPHS community to stand together in full support for our National Cricket team who open the World Cup tournament against England tomorrow. We celebrated the World Cup soccer not so long ago and now it is time to cheer on our country to bring the trophy home. All the best to our Proteas!
GO SHARKS
We need to also be there to cheer on our Sharks at Jonsson Kings Park against the Hurricanes at 15h05 on Saturday. Let us be in positive cheer to motivate our Sharks to climb to higher positions on the log and hopefully qualify for the quarter finals etc. that will be rapidly approaching.
I share with you that our Sharks U13A Primary Schools team will also be in action at Jonsson Kings Park on Saturday playing on the main field straight after the senior Sharks game. This game will be against the Lions U13A team which will also be followed by our Sharks U12A v/s Sharks U12B teams on the stadium.
We have managed to secure these games with support from our Union to add to the festivities of the day. Please be there to support our provincial teams, seniors and juniors as we will have DPHS boys playing in the Sharks senior team (Du Preez brothers) as well as five boys in our Sharks U13A team with our Mr Carroll as coach and a further three boys in the U12 teams, with Mr Simba Bwanya and Mr Shack Tshabalala as assistant coaches in the U12 teams.
Let us make this a proudly Sharks/Prep day!
