The long-awaited Grade 4 excursion to Camp El Olam was a great success. Camp El Olam is an outdoor education centre situated on a beautiful sugar cane farm in Eston & managed by Garth & Rae Hawyes and their team of youth camp facilitators.
The boys participated in 4 (45minute) activities on a rotational basis – 2 before lunch and 2 after lunch. These activities included obstacle course, bow/arrow making workshop, team building and free sport. This took up the greater part of the day ending in a 2km walk to one of the farm dams for a refreshing late afternoon swim. The evening saw the boys gathered around the massive bonfire sipping hot chocolate and roasted marshmallows.
The food was delicious – the boys rated it an “A” and cooking their own omelettes for breakfast was a first for many! After bungalow tidy-up, the boys then put their ‘archery’ skills to the test popping the balloon targets with their newly made bow and arrow. The photos say it all- lots and lots of fun
