DPHS Grade 2s visit the Umgeni Bird Park

The Grade 2 boys excursion to the Umgeni Bird Park is always a favourite and this term, four classes of DPHS boys excitedly jumped onto the bus for their special outing.
The boys were thrilled to be able to enter a large cage and feed the lorakeets some nectar. These birds were equally excited as they settled on the boys’ heads, shoulders and arms to receive some nectar.

The highlight of the day was the Bird Show where we saw a hornbill hopping across the stage and an owl swooping above our heads to grab hold of some meat. The delighted screams from the boys confirmed that the pelican who dived into the small pond to catch a piece of fish was definitely their firm favourite.
It really was a most worthwhile outing as the learners got to see most of the birds that they had learnt about in our theme module this term.
