OUR VISION

Preparing our Boys for Life

OUR MISSION

To provide a unique, balanced education and fulfilling experience within a nurturing environment, founded on the school’s guiding principles of integrity and respect for self and others.

FROM SMALL BEGINNINGS BETTER FORTUNE FOLLOWS

Boys participating fully in ‘The Prep Experience’ leave the School thoroughly prepared for the challenges of the future as strong contributors to society.

THE PREP EXPERIENCE
Grade 0 – Grade 7

Durban Prep is a school steeped in tradition, with impressive facilities and the best of Educators who provide top-quality education.

There is always a buzz – things happening, because the school has so much to offer. You can sense the passion. Amongst all of this are high levels of support from all connected to the school. There is a terrific sense of pride. And much emphasis on fair discipline.

Taking the example of the Educators, the well-mannered boys learn leadership and develop high levels of integrity, in an environment which provides a down to earth yet highly professional approach to education - in perfect balance; sport and sportsmanship; academics; culture, and a cross-cultural understanding and acceptance, where anyone is welcome.
This school is not for the faint-hearted however. It is progressive and fresh, and very challenging, and one can only feel privileged to be a part of it. And in no other way is this better demonstrated by the legendary Grade 7’s last bell on their final day at Prep, after which of course, better fortune follows.

MESSAGE FROM THE HEADMASTER

Durban Prep is a leading South African primary school for boys.

The foundation of the school’s success is a shared vision and a partnership within a community of people of considerable ability and vitality, more specifically, loyal friends, strongly committed and supportive parents and a highly qualified, dedicated and experienced staff.

By encouraging new ideas from home and abroad, looking ahead and planning carefully, Durban Prep continually seeks to provide total quality through a wide range of learning experiences.

Above all, the school aims to encourage each boy to work hard and to take pride in achievement; to think independently; to enjoy solving problems; to accept responsibility; to act honestly; to show respect and concern for others and to develop wider skills and interests.

In a community such as this, the creation and protection of traditional values depend less on rules than on thoughtfulness, sharing, sensitivity to others' needs and participation in a constructive academic and extra-mural programme. DPHS encourages pupils, staff members and the greater school community to base their action on honesty, a respect for self and a respect for others.

Durban Prep's fine reputation for the good conduct, manners and appearance of its boys is the cornerstone of the school’s ethos. It has taken many years for people who have gone before to make the school's good name. A deep sense of pride is evident in all who have an association with the school.

The school strives to be recognised from within and beyond its gates as a friendly school. This website cannot fully convey the Prep Experience - its warmth, its friendliness, its spirit and most particularly the distinctive qualities of a Prep boy. I hope the occasion will arrive when you come to see Durban Prep for yourself.
