Prep Patter 6
To all
Parents, Old Boys and Members of the Prep Community
FROM THE HEADMASTER
On Friday morning this week the school will take pleasure welcoming all our guests to a special assembly to be held on the Wally Walshaw field to celebrate the completion and official opening of the new school cricket nets and to give thanks for these new nets and the improvements to the cricket and sporting opportunities the school will enjoy. We will welcome special guest, Fa-eez Jaffar, President of KZN Cricket who has kindly agreed to do the school the honour of officially opening the nets. I am hoping one of our most generous donors towards this project, Old Boy, Shane Thomson, class of ‘82 who now lives in Cape Town is able to attend! I remember Shane batting for the DPHS 1stteam chasing a big total against Penzance and scoring a match winning 80 runs on the top field in 1982, which included four or five glorious cover drives. I was umpiring at square leg when we lost our fifth wicket and the Penzance captain came up to me and said, “Sir, we are running through you like a hot knife through butter!” DPHS won the match without losing another wicket. In 1982, if I remember correctly, there were two very old cricket nets situated where the uniform shop is today and two more in this corner of the school grounds facing Gordon Road. Thinking back on those small beginnings how fortunate we are today! I thank Shane for his kindness to the school and most generous contribution towards the completion of these new nets!
We are grateful to all our other donors and thank them together with the school governors, trustees and members of the mothers’ committee, including Janine Bamber, chairperson in 2011, for their special interest and generous contributions towards the building of the new nets and extension of the field.
The lay-out and innovative design of the new nets are the brain child of our Director of Sport, Michael Dick and our Director of Physical Education, Gavin Goodwin. As project managers they were often on site after hours, weekends and during the school holidays. I thank them for their hard work, dedication and the quality of our new cricket nets. We also thank DPHS parent, Manuel Gouveia for his special interest in the project and the expertise and generous assistance he provided.
A current Dolphins player Cody Chetty, class of 2003, has kindly agreed to face Sean Gilson, our school cricket captain who will bowl the first official ball to be bowled in the new nets after Mr Jaffar has cut the ribbon to open the nets. Sean will be followed by a bowler from each grade in the school and selected guests and staff members.
You are invited to join this special assembly which takes place at 07h45 on Friday 17 February.
St Stithians Tour
The St Stithians tour this past weekend was a most successful and enjoyable sporting event for all.
As always, events such as these are only made possible by the generous hospitality of our DPHS parents. Thank you to all those parents who hosted visiting sportsmen for the weekend.

RECEPTION UNIT NEWS
The Reception Unit boys are very excited about joining all the pupils at Main Campus for the official opening of the school cricket nets, as well as the extension to the Wally Walshaw field, on Friday. It is events such as this, as well as our weekly music, drama and computer lesson with specialist Junior Primary teachers, which make them feel very much a part of the bigger Prep family.
Max Laggar, one of our little Blue Group boys, underwent major surgery last week. Mr Bo, the class mascot, was with him together with a special card made for him by his class mates. Please keep him as well as his mom, dad and two brothers, Sharon, Robbie, Jared and Ryan in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
JUNIOR PRIMARY NEWS
Congratulations to all the boys who participated in the Midmar Mile swim last weekend. We are especially proud of the 4 JP boys who took on this challenge and completed it successfully.
We are looking forward to the special assembly which will be held later this week to commemorate the opening of the cricket nets. The JP cricketers will certainly enjoy and benefit from this new facility.

BOUNDARY BUDDY
DPHS have recently launched the exciting & innovative new program into the school called "BOUNDARY BUDDY''!
Boundary Buddy is a multi-functional product used to demarcate and divide school fields and sports areas on a daily basis. These advert prisms allow parents, local and national business the opportunity to advertise their business and brands at a very affordable cost of R5000 + VAT for a 12 month period from date of installation.
This product’s true innovation however, is that the substantial portion generated from the sale of these advertisements is given back to the school on the day of installation.
We are delighted with this product, not only for us as a school, but also for businesses to be given the opportunity to brand themselves into their target market, as well as gain recognition in the community.
Boundary Buddy is now in full swing & gaining much interest & momentum, so we hope that you will be signing up for your space on the main "Smith" field before it’s all sold out.
All enquiries can be dealt with on the website or by contacting your Relationship Manager:
Maryanne Deeblemaryanned@boundarybuddy.co.za083 445 2848 or Juanita Steen juanitas@boundarybuddy.co.za079 519 9700
