BULLETIN 09: Wednesday 10 March 2010
DPHS NEWS AND RESULTS

To all Parents, Old Boys and Members of the Prep Community

FROM THE HEADMASTER

Dear Parents, Old Boys, Staff Members, former Staff, Friends and Boys,

At 09h30 on Friday, the day of the Dinner
Prep folk and boys must look to the sky
Standing proudly, each a winner
Awaiting the arrival of guests and I
The drum of an engine, a helicopter lands
Branded in Prep colours, all aglow
Out step the guests to a clap of hands
What a stupendous birthday show!
Now who is that guest, so tidy and neat?
A Prep boy to be sure, Buffalo or Bear?
Dressed for a birthday, above tiny feet
This is the moment, this is the year!!

Dear Parents
The Centenary Dinner on Friday night is the high point of the 2010 school year.

The boys are to dress in their Centenary Birthday gear on Friday.

The day will begin with the arrival of myself, and guests by helicopter piloted by commercial helicopter pilot and Prep old boy Matthew Gilmour, brother of Christopher in Grade 6. Craig and Lorraine Gilmour and family kingly and very generously branded the helicopter in a stunning show of the school badge and Centenary logo. Be on the lookout for this amazing airship over the skies of Durban. On route to DPHS Matthew will fly us close to the beautiful new Moses Mabhida Stadium. Whilst in the air over the Stadium, I will announce my challenge to parents and old boys. The DPHS brand statement says that DPHS is not for the faint hearted. I will jump and swing from the arch of the stadium when the School Centenary Fund receives 100 parent pledges and 100 pledges from old boys, staff and friends of the School. The School will try and arrange for the boys to attend my jump! The present count is 52 pledges from parents and 11 from old boys, staff and friends of the school, and so I haven’t even begun to feel nervous. For my jump I will wear the colours of the School together with a Bafana Bafana jersey if my challenge is met before the start of the World Cup. It’s not that difficult to get me to jump because you can spread the amount of your pledge over 12 months. I shouldn’t be telling you this!

If you have already booked for the Dinner, thank you. If not, pick up the phone and call Leonie to reserve a place for an evening of fun, friendship, good food and entertainment with Aaron Mcilroy.
Let’s make it happen!

RECEPTION UNIT NEWS

We had a wonderful turnout of parents at our School Readiness Evening last week. As usual, the presentations were informative and relevant. Parents had a chance to socialize afterwards over tea, coffee and eats.

The Reception Unit boys all arrived at school looking particularly smart on Monday, due to the fact that Natal Photos were coming to take individual and class photographs.

To complement our themes of ‘Growing Up’ and ‘Health and Hygiene’, three brave new mothers came to school to show us how they bath their babies. The boys were fascinated by the demonstrations and those with younger siblings were so eager to share their experiences with us.

JUNIOR PRIMARY NEWS

On Saturday morning the Grade 1 and 2 boys enjoyed their final Mini-Cricket session for this season. Grateful thanks are extended to all the dads who assisted with the coaching and in so doing ensured that the boys spent a constructive session each week developing essential skills and a love of the game. The boys certainly deserve to be complimented on their positive response and the progress they made during the term.
The U9 boys had their first rugby trials last week and will be building up their fitness in anticipation of their matches which will start early next term.
