FROM THE HEADMASTER
Dear Parents, Old Boys, Staff Members, former Staff, Friends and Boys,
The new school year is well underway and promises to be very memorable. I hope your son has settled into his new grade and for new parents your son has settled into DPHS and is happy and feels rewarded for his efforts. The first major event on the Centenary calendar, the visit by St Stithians from Sandton, was a great success. Thank you to all the DPHS parents who so generously and kindly hosted our many visiting boys. This was a quality sporting event in every way. The standard of the cricket, golf, swimming, tennis and water polo was very high. Most pleasing was the sportsmanship and friendliness between the two schools which was so evident throughout the weekend. St Stithians very thoughtfully presented DPHS with a painting of their school, inscribed ‘Congratulations to DPHS on a century of educational excellence’. We are very proud of our sporting association with St Stithians. This year was the 29th year of reciprocal visits by the two schools and for the first time golf and water polo were part of the programme.

RECEPTION UNIT NEWS
Unfortunately, Captain Keogh, ‘The Laughing Policeman’, who was visiting our school on Monday, was unable to do so due to ill health. The boys were very disappointed but we will be welcoming him next Thursday instead.
Val Cotterell, our Green Group teacher, will be going on leave this week as it is her daughters’ wedding next Saturday. We would like to wish all the Cotterell family a very special day full of love, laughter and special memories.
Happy Valentine’s Day for Sunday! We hope that your sons remember to give you their cards, made with much love!

JUNIOR PRIMARY NEWS
It was such a pleasure to attend the Championship Gala last night and we are all very proud of the competitors. Participation in this gala is an honour as only the top ten boys in each age group are invited to swim so congratulations to all those who swam last night. The standard of swimming was very high and the boys are to be commended on their levels of skill, fitness and sportsmanship. All the Grade Ones deserve a special mention as they were participating in their first Prep Gala. It was heart-warming to see the courage and determination of the U7 boys swimming the daunting 100m stretch for the Individual Medley event! The names of the medal winners appear in the Sports Section below.
We look forward to the JP Invitation Gala which will take place in March.

NEWS FROM DHS
Last weekend was another great cricketing one for the school. As old boy Hashim Amla was on his record breaking way to a glorious 250 plus against India, which clearly set up the Proteas for their innings victory, the 1st XI was proving a nightmare for the St Charles side up in a steaming Maritzburg. In temperatures which rose above 40 degrees, our boys racked up 267 for 1. Nathan Poole, Captain, and John Grewar both made centuries. Well done to both of them on a stupendous effort, and well done to Hashim- you all make us proud!
We look forward to seeing Prep parents at our Info Evening on 15 February. We hope to show you our new facilities and answer your queries and questions. Please join us.
Have a great week.
