FROM THE HEADMASTER
Dear Parents, Old Boys, Staff Members, former Staff, Friends and Boys,
Cocktail Party
It was indeed a great pleasure to welcome all our new parents to DPHS at the cocktail party last Friday night. Everyone was most impressed with the renovations currently taking place in the Maurice Wilkinson Hall. The new mezzanine deck to provide additional seating space is nearing completion. The wonderful new folding doors which have replaced two of the doors certainly add a new dimension to the facility, opening as they do onto the newly paved courtyard.
Visit from St Stithians
How happy the School is to be hosting our very good friends from Johannesburg, St Stithians, in a celebration of sport and friendship this weekend. This friendship between the two schools goes back to 1982. St Stithians and DPHS have enjoyed the benefits of a reciprocal arrangement for 29 years. The boys, staff and parents at DPHS count their visits to St Stithians as one of the highlights of the sporting calendar. Hosting our good friends on this occasion of our Centenary for cricket, golf, swimming, tennis and water polo is a real privilege. Thank you, St Stithians, for your continued friendship and generous hospitality. Enjoy your 2010 visit to DPHS.
RICHARD NEAVE

CONGRATULATIONS
Greg Mckay was chosen as Golf Captain for 2010.
Congratulations to Melanie Fletcher, mother of Nicholas in Grade 7A and our Aftercare Supervisor on passing her Bachelor of Education degree with Distinction. Her degree will be conferred on her at graduation by Unisa in June. We are all very proud of Melanie.

RECEPTION UNIT NEWS
We were very pleased to see so many of our new parents at the Cocktail Party on Friday night and hope that you were able to chat to the staff and meet other Prep parents in a more relaxed environment.
The first meeting of our Mothers’ Committee was held on Wednesday and we would like to thank all of you who were able to attend as well as all the parents who have offered to assist in other areas of our school. We could not manage without you all.
We were delighted to welcome back Jo Pletts, who is doing a two week locum in Blue Group. Jo was a teacher assistant at Reception Unit and is now a fully qualified teacher.

JUNIOR PRIMARY NEWS
The first U9 inter-school cricket matches took place at the end of last week. There was much excitement amongst all the Grade 3 boys on Friday but the A team, to their great disappointment and having made a sound start, had their match rained out. The B team played in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday and the boys are congratulated on their standard of play and winning result. The strong support of the Prep parents at both matches is much appreciated.
There was a wonderful turnout at the New Parents’ Cocktail Party on Friday evening and it proved to be a very valuable opportunity for many people to meet up with new parents and staff.
We look forward to supporting the boys who have been selected to swim in the DPHS Championship Gala on Tuesday evening.

NEWS FROM DHS
My thanks to Prep for attending the Jon Kent 6 A Side Festival last Sunday. Despite the heat a fine time was had by all. Congratulations to our 1ST XI who won the high school section, beating Glenwood in the final. The Celebrity XI including international players Lance Klusener, Jon Kent , Imraan Khan and Dale Benkenstein , defeated our 1ST XI, not surprisingly. Most of all cricket was a winner on the day.
It is great to see Prep boys coming to school for Water Polo practice. I hope they are learning a lot; they certainly have an impressive coaching group working with them.
We are hosting a DPHS Information Evening on 15th February. Please be aware that this is not exactly the same as last year’s event for Grade 6 parents. We do urge all parents of Grade 7 boys to join us on the evening.
