RECEPTION UNIT NEWS
Last week saw the start of our swimming lessons, held at the Jubilee Pool at Gordon Road Girls School, where the boys met their swimming coaches, Heather and Cheyne. As it was an extremely hot day, the boys were delighted to spend time cooling off in the pool.
Justine Smit, the Blue Group Teacher, will be writing the final exams for her Foundation Phase Honours Degree over the next two weeks. We wish her the success she so richly deserves.
The New Parents’ and New Teachers’ Cocktail Party takes place on Friday 29 January in the Maurice Wilkinson Hall on Main Campus at 18h30. This is the first function of the DPHS Centenary Calendar in which parents are involved, and all our Grade 0 parents are extended a very warm welcome.

 |
JUNIOR PRIMARY NEWS
The first Mini-Cricket session for the Grade 1 and 2 boys took place on Saturday morning and the boys thoroughly enjoyed a time of skills practice and games. Thanks are extended to all the dads who have volunteered to coach a team this term – these very worthwhile sessions would not be possible without their commitment.
We are looking forward to seeing as many parents as possible at the New Parents’ Cocktail Party this Friday 29 January from 18h30 to 20h00. For this Centenary Year a special invitation is extended to all parents, both old and new, and most especially the Grade 1 parents who have just arrived on the main campus. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet other Prep parents as well view the enhancements to our Maurice Wilkinson hall which are presently in progress. The staff looks forward to welcoming you.

GENERAL
BOOK TIME REMINDER:
DPHS will once again be hosting the company Book Time book fair, whose motto is ‘Good books @ great prices’. Book Time is owned and operated by ex-teachers Anne Canton and Jenny Ortlepp.
To have books that belong to you alone is a lasting treasure. A book is a gift that lasts a lifetime as reading – and the success it brings – is a lifelong joy. Jenny and Anne are in a good position to provide your children with appropriate, quality books and they endeavour to keep prices as reasonable as possible so that books are not possessions priced out of reach.
They have an extensive range of books for toddlers to young teens. Both fiction and non-fiction are available. Do come and visit the sale if you can or let your child purchase a book to start, or add to, their personal treasure trove!
Book time will visit DPHS on Monday, 01 February 2010 from 10h00 – 16h00 and Tuesday 02 February 2010 from 07h30 – 14h00 in the Functions Room.
We are also pleased to inform you that The Salvation Army, and their representative, Charleen Jacobs, will join us at the book fair. Charleen will be selling beautiful beaded trinkets and these make fantastic gift options, especially with Valentine’s Day just around the bend. The beading forms part of the project of equipping adults with skills to enable them to earn money.
WINDERMERE CENTRE - Side Walk Sale
To coincide with the “birthdays” of a number of our new stores, Windermere Centre is hosting an impromptu “Side Walk Sale” starting Wednesday 27th and running until Saturday 30 January. Join us @ Windermere Shopping Centre for some exciting “special offers at bargain prices”.

NEWS FROM DHS
The first week has gone well, and the new boys are settling into the rhythm of their new school. We had our first round of fixtures in sport and it was good to see Prep boys doing well in a variety of teams. Darren Matthysen hit a great 50 for the U14 A side, and they are shaping up to be a competitive team. This Sunday we have the Jon Kent Benefit 6 A side at DHS. Prep are taking part, and we wish them well. Jon is a Dolphins player and old boy, and we are thrilled to be involved in his benefit year. I hope we can see good support on Sunday. A Celebrity XI will be playing during the luncheon break, and we hope to have a number of our top old boy cricketers taking part.
I look forward to seeing many of you over the ensuing months as we move into the season of recruitment for Grade 8 2011. We have a Prep Parents Info Evening coming up soon, and I hope we see many of you there.
Have a good week!
