FROM THE HEADMASTER
Dear Parents, Old Boys, Staff Members, former Staff, Friends and Boys,
On Monday night the school hall was a buzz of excitement as the staff set about producing a work of Art for the walls of their beautiful new staff room. Each individual staff member present was tasked with completing a canvas in acrylic paint for hanging in the new staff room as a celebration of the school centenary and a celebration of the creativity which lies within each individual and every boy in the school. Under the guidance of our two inspirational specialists Art teachers, Annemarie Levine and Brenda Thatcher the staff enjoyed a unique and very fulfilling experience. We were able at the end of our three hour Art class to gaze with wonderment and complete admiration at the skill and creativity of our colleagues on the staff. These beautiful works of Art will soon be hung in the new staff room. Parents are welcome to visit and view this stunning collection of Art work. Thank you to all those staff members who participated and to our two talented and devoted Art teachers.
My grateful thanks, together with the thanks of Hlelizwe Magwaza, to a former parent, Carolanne Heard who, all the way from Dubai, arranged for the delivery of a car cover to Mr Magwaza. Remembering the school from far away was a wonderful gesture of good will and community spirit. Thank you Carol.
RICHARD NEAVE

RECEPTION UNIT NEWS
On Monday, Fiona and Naomi from The Menagerie visited us with their interesting collection of animals, including owls, rabbits, a bull frog, a kitten and a goat. The boys had such fun learning about each of these amazing creatures and thoroughly enjoyed this ‘hands on’ experience. A few brave souls were even brave enough to touch the baby rock python!

JUNIOR PRIMARY NEWS
We are very proud of all the Grade One boys who presented the special Mothers’ Day assembly to the Prep mums on behalf of the school on Friday. They, together with the Grade One teachers, Sally Perks and “guest artists” Trevor Vosloo and Buyi Nondaba, are to be congratulated on an outstanding presentation. Thanks to all staff who contributed to the success of this wonderful production. We trust that all the mums had an enjoyable day on Sunday and were made to feel much appreciated.
This Friday evening, owing to the Sharks playing in the final Super 14 match to be played in Durban this season, the JP Mini-Rugby has been cancelled. To accommodate this the next session which takes place on Saturday 22 May will be extended by half an hour and followed by a complimentary cup of Milo supplied by the Nestlé Milo Sampling Campaign.

Coast2coast4Cansa Expedition and Cancer Awareness Campaign
A very big THANK YOU to all members of the DPHS Community for their support of this campaign. The expedition team has been particularly heartened and impressed on receiving the latest news on the DPHS C2C4Cansa collection can initiative launched after the team's presentation to our boys on 14 April. On Monday the school handed over 584 cans to Cansa's Durban representatives. These cans are being held until the C2C4Cansa team's return home later this month. A fitting occasion will see the School's presentation of its collection to the expedition team who will then make a presentation to CANSA.
News gathered from various sources indicates that the intrepid C2C4Cansa ambassadors and adventurers are entering the final stages of their journey from Mozambique to Namibia. The expedition is supported by Spar and IT partner Acer, they are mounted on Yamaha Waverunners for the ocean legs of the journey while road transport for the support team is provided by Thekweni Toyota.
The jet ski team, which includes DPHS Old Boys Russel Symcox (expedition leader and former Dolphins cricketer), Jason Ribbink (SA and world renowned surfer and Prep dad) and Barry Lewin (SA surfski paddler) with team members Lance Klusener (former Protea cricketer) and Mark Addison (marine conservationist) left Hondeklipbaai on the West Coast at sunrise on Wednesday. Another Prep Old Boy and brother of Jason, Brandon Ribbink, joined the team as they journeyed around Cape Point a few days ago. With less than 500km to go, the team hopes to reach Port Nolloth and then the Orange River over the next two days.
Their journey to date has not been without its challenges, effects being felt by both man and machine. The past few days, in particular, has seen the jetski crew deal with the most extreme ocean conditions of the trip thus far. Symcox said of their experience of a few days ago, “today was some of the biggest seas we have seen – raw ocean power, made worse by the 8 degree water and seven metre swells. The boys performed incredibly well to complete the 156 km in 6 hours. At this stage of the mission, looking back at the distance we have covered, and looking ahead to the 500km left to travel, it is a mental challenge and we are going to have to keep persevering up until the final few kilometres”.
For more information, to donate or simply just to track the progress of the crew throughout the C2C4C campaign, log on to the official website at www.coast2coast4cansa.co.za. For the official C2C4C blog, log on to http://www.getaway.co.za/page/coast-2-coast-4-cansa, and for daily updates follow or join the Twitter and Facebook feeds which are updated many times each day.

NEWS FROM DHS
Last week the school presented a fantastic Beatles Review, The Magical Mystery Tour in Seabrookes. The talented cast, under the equally talented direction of DHS staff member, Mr Collyer, provided a wonderful evening of entertainment for a week of appreciative audiences. Well done to all concerned.
The under 14 Rugby age group continues to impress, recording a fine set of results against Michaelhouse, managing to record no losses in all four games. The A side recorded a solid victory, and are really turning into an excellent team. The 1st XV were equally impressive in recording a great win against a talented side.
Prep old boys, Scott Lefevre and Chris Frolich, represented KZN at the Longboard Surfing Champs. Scott won the national under 19 title for the second year in a row. Well done!
Regards
Dave Magner
