“Books are lighthouses erected in the great sea of time.”
(Edwin P. Whipple)

The Victor Daitz Media and Information Technology Centre aims to be the heart of the school. The space that is now known as the Media Centre was the original school hall. The high ceilings and heavy beams attest to the rich history of the almost century old building. In 2010 the space was renovated and new lighting, carpeting and painting preceded the naming of the library to honour Victor Daitz.

The Media Centre is often filled to capacity with boys who are eager to enjoy the many facilities offered. It has a vast array of books for the boys to choose from, with many favourite authors being well represented upon our shelves, attesting to our ability to keep up with the latest reading trends. Many of the popular magazines and Yearbooks are available for the boys to enjoy. The cosy armchairs and beanbags beckon the boys to relax on them with a captivating book. Those who seek to be mentally challenged pop in to enjoy a game of chess.

We assist Prep boys with research on assignments and projects as our Media Centre boasts an extensive range of Reference material and we ten computers that boys are able to use. They have monitored internet access at breaks and after school and they are able to print the information they have sourced.

Media lessons are fun and interactive with lessons based on comparative studies, between books and the movies that are based on them, study skills in preparation for examinations and on Media Science. The teaching space has a smart board that facilitates interactive lessons and allows boys to have guided lessons on the various multimedia and resources available on the internet.

The passion and initiative that DPHS boys show towards books and reading are a clear indication that the message on the importance of reading has not been lost on these boys. As former First Lady of the United States of America, Jacqueline Kennedy said: ‘There are many little ways to enlarge your child's world. Love of books is the best of all.’ We believe that here, at DPHS, we are well on our way to accomplishing this.
